Purpose of the course To increase the understanding of the interdisciplinary field of Bioengineering and Medical devices, and the specific opportunities and challenges including ethical aspects as well as the tools and technologies employed in the field.
Intended learning outcomes Upon completion of the course, the doctoral students can describe important concepts and technologies in bioengineering in a medical context, relate them to the innovation and development of Medical Devices, and critically evaluate relevant methods and technologies employed.
Contents of the course Central concepts and technologies in the interdiscplinary field of bioengineering and biomedical devices. Defining and solving biomedical engineering problems, modeling and designing different medical devices, systems, components or processes, including the interaction between living and non-living systems. Emerging technologies in bioengineering and medical devices.

Teaching and learning activities The teaching and learning activities consist of presentations, seminars, technology demonstrations, student projects and networking opportunities. The course is organized as an intensive summer school format in co-operation with other universities.
Compulsory elements
Examination The learning outcomes will be examined individually with active participation in the discussions and a concept development workshop where all participants must contribute.
