Purpose of the course To enable acquisition of extended biostatistic knowledge, especially time-to-event analysis.
Intended learning outcomes To be able to show a good understanding of survival analysis in general and Cox and Poisson regression in particular.
Contents of the course The course covers a range of statistical methods for the analysis of survival data and dependent data. The first week presents the survival curve, life expectancy and span, Kaplan-Meier estimator, log-rank and related tests, survival percentiles, Laplace regression, mortality rates, Poisson regression, Cox regression, stratified regression, time-varying covariates.
The second week covers generalized estimating equations, profile analyses, correlation structures, quantile regression with dependent data, mixed effects models, and conditional regression. The course discusses strengths and limitations of each method, presents a series of real-life example, focuses on interpretation and practical relevance, and describes the Stata commands for replicating all the analyses. The use of mathematical notation is minimal.
Teaching and learning activities Lectures and computer-aided excercises/labs.
Compulsory elements Attendance at lectures and computer-aided excercises/labs is compulsory. Absence can be compensated through attendance at a subsequent class or per agreement with the course director.
