Purpose of the course | |
Intended learning outcomes | At the end of the course, students are expected to: - Be familiar with different roles of a professional university teacher and current conditions related to teaching-learning within higher education. - Be able to use educational concepts in discussions of teaching and learning situated in Higher Education. - Design teaching in regards to outcome- or competency based frameworks for curriculum design and also in relation to theories of learning or research on student learning in higher education. |
Contents of the course | - Roles and conditions related to being a professional university teacher. - Students learning in higher education - Different forms of teaching and learning activities - Design of teaching for learning |
Teaching and learning activities | The course is based on theories of experiential learning, a reflective attitude and learning through participation and collaboration. Teaching is conducted via the learning platform Ping Pong and is constructed largely around the students' own reading of literature, written assignments, peer feedback and on-line group discussions. The majority of assignments are based on the students describing, examining and reflecting over their own teaching and relating this to literature/theory. |
Compulsory elements | - Participation in group discussions online - Doing the examination assignment - Provide peer feedback on course and examination assignments. |
Examination | In a final examination assignment, the participant apply course content in reviewing and discussing development of one a teaching situation related to their own practice. This is presented through a written essay. To pass the course, the participant is required to: - Complete all module assignments and participate actively in group work and discussions online during the course - Conduct the assignment of being a ""critical friend""; observing and giving feedback on a colleagues teaching. - Giving feedback to a peers´ examination assignment - Pass the final examination assignment, which is judged using assessment criteria. |
