| Purpose of the course | The course aims to develop the skills to summarize and analyze scientific literature and knowledge in the form of a scientific review article. |
| Intended learning outcomes | After this course the students will be able to: - explain the difference between research papers, original articles and a review article and between a narrative review and other types or review articles like systematic reviews with meta-analysis and scoping reviews - follow the overall format of a review article including reference management - write a first draft of a review article while taking into account the selection of source material and the structure of the article. |
| Contents of the course | The course will address the structure and format of review articles and provide practical information to construct such an article including selection of source material, organization of each section and reference management. Throughout the course, each participant will work on their own review article and receive formative assessment of their performance, with peer and instructor feedback. |
| Teaching and learning activities | Interactive lectures, group work, writing assignments including revision of the student´s own text and peer review. |
| Compulsory elements | Attendance is mandatory for the group work and lectures. Possibility for compensation for absence by performing an alternative task needs to discussed with the course leader. |
| Examination | Each student will write a first draft of a review article and receive formative assessment. A summative assessment is made after revision of the first draft. |
