SYLLABI FOR DOCTORAL COURSES
Swedish title | Biostatistik II: Logistisk regression |
---|---|
English title | Biostatistics II: Logistic Regression |
Course number | 3014 |
Credits | 1.5 |
Notes |
The course meets the requirements for a general science course. |
Responsible KI department | Institutionen för neurobiologi, vårdvetenskap och samhälle |
Specific entry requirements | Passed the courses Basic epidemiology, Biostatistics I and Biostatistics II (linear regression), or equivalent courses. |
Grading | Passed /Not passed |
Established by | The Committee for Doctoral Education |
Established | 2023-08-25 |
Purpose of the course | The course aims to deepen the knowledge in the use of logistic regression in biomedical research. |
Intended learning outcomes | Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Calculate and interpret a logistic regression model with continuous and categorical explanatory variables using the statistical program Stata. - Select a final logistic regression model with modeling of confounders and effect modifiers. - Determine if a logistic regression model is well-fitted to the data. - Present results from logistic regression in tables in a manner that would be publishable in an international scientific journal. |
Contents of the course | The course covers:
- Basic logistic regression. - Logistic regression with one explanatory variable (continuous and categorical). - Logistic regression with multiple explanatory variables. - Evaluation of confounding and effect modification (interaction) with logistic regression. - Interpretation of model fitting. |
Teaching and learning activities | The course focuses on student-centered learning as the pedagogical model. The course includes individual study tasks, seminars, and lectures. |
Compulsory elements | All components except lectures are compulsory. Absence from compulsory components is compensated by submission of an equivalent assignment. |
Examination | The examination is summative and is conducted through an individual written assignment, where the student is required to perform and interpret statistical calculations, justify their choices, and present their results in a publishable form. |
Literature and other teaching material | Compulsory literature:
Provided course material. Recommended literature: Praktisk statistik för medicin och hälsa [Practical Statistics for Medicine and Health], book with eLab, Jonas Björk. Liber 2011. ISBN 9789147103430. A Gentle Introduction to Stata, Alan C. Acock. Stata Press 2016. ISBN 9781597181853. Statistical Modeling for Biomedical Researchers, William D. Dupont. Cambridge University Press 2002. |
