Purpose of the course | The course aims to enable doctoral students to further develop finetune, apply, practice and receive first hand feedback, for their acquired skills during the course 'How to present a Scientific Question'. The students will be trained in presenting their own research adapted to different presentation formats and different target audiences. |
Intended learning outcomes | After the course the students will able to:
- conduct an oral scientific presentation, adapted to the audience's level of competence - describe the basic theories of oral presentation techniques. |
Contents of the course | The course discusses theories of oral presentation techniques while emphasizing hands-on practice of oral presentations under various conditions; presentation to an audience with and without special scientific training and impromptu talks. |
Teaching and learning activities | The course is based on interactive lectures and practical exercises in the art of giving oral presentations on any topic to any audience, a scientific topic to a non-scientific audience and a scientific topic to a scientific audience. Impromptu talks will also be practiced. Presentations are filmed and reviewed in class. |
Compulsory elements | All teaching is compulsory. The course leader determines if and how absence shall be compensated. |
Examination | Formative and summative assessment of practical exercises of oral presentations, including scientific presentations to a scientific audience, scientific presentation to a non-scientific audience, and impromptu presentations as well as introduction and hosting of a speaker. Summative assessment of theories of oral presentation techniques. |
