| Purpose of the course | The course is aimed at providing the required knowledge regarding Swedish law and ethics on the use of animals for scientific purposes to persons who will work with laboratory animal models. |
| Intended learning outcomes | After completion of this course, the students should be able to meet the defined learning outcomes as set out in the EU Education and Training Framework, specifically for the modules 1 to 2. In summary, participants will acquire knowledge on regulations, ethics, animal welfare and the 3Rs of animals used in science in Sweden. In particular, at the end of the course participants should be able to:
1. Indicate key principles of the EU and Swedish legislation regarding the use of animals in science. 2. Understand ethical and welfare issues in relation to the use of animals in scientific procedures, including basic principles of the 3Rs (replacement, reduction, and refinement). |

| Teaching and learning activities | This in an online course based on e-learning modules. |
| Compulsory elements | All parts of the e-learning modules must be successfully completed. |
| Examination | A summative assessment using multiple choice questions will be held following completion of the online course. |
