Purpose of the course
Intended learning outcomes After the course the students should be able to:
-Have a fundamental understanding for the potential of phenomenology in health care science research i.e. that they can identify phenomena in health care science, which should be studied by a phenomenological method and formulate adequate phenomenological research questions.

-Have a basic knowledge of how the phenomenological philosophy is the foundation of empirical phenomenological research, i.e. that they show knowledge of and can in practice relate to central aspects in phenomenology such as e.g. lived experience, intentionality, life world, lived body.

-Have basic knowledge of design and data collection in phenomenological studies and how phenomenological analysis of empirical data can be executed, i.e. that they show skillfulness in study design and analysis of their own (or given) data.
Contents of the course Phenomenological philosophy (based mainly on Husserl and Merleau-Ponty) as the foundation for empirical research.
Definition and application of central concepts and aspects in phenomenological research.
Application of the phenomenological approach in empirical research; design, data and analysis.
Teaching and learning activities Lectures
Group discussions and working in pairs
Individual assignments and exercises in analysis
Seminars
Compulsory elements Taking part in all seminars is compulsory. Absence from seminars is to be compensated by a written assignment.
Examination Examination occurs at
a/ seminar 2 (oral presentation in pairs, where the examination is based upon the student's ability to account for and reflect on the studied material) and
b/ in the individual written assignment including c/ the oral opponent- and respondent-ship at seminar 3.
