Purpose of the course | |
Intended learning outcomes | After completing the course the student will be able to ¿compare the applicability of different qualitative research methods for scientific investigations of longitudinal processes in health and care sciences ¿carry out a longitudinal analysis based on a qualitative approach reflect on design and methods regarding temporal aspects of studies with qualitative approaches. |
Contents of the course | The course includes lectures by experts in different qualitative approaches (content analysis, ethnography, phenomenology and grounded theory) and methods for scientific inquiries of processes in health and care sciences involving temporal aspects. In a workshop the students will practice longitudinal analysis using one qualitative method. In seminars the students will a) discuss the process and the result of their longitudinal analyses, b) present reflections on applying longitudinal designs and methods in their own research in light of the different qualitative approaches that have been presented during the course. Parts of the course will be given in English. |
Teaching and learning activities | Lectures, workshop and seminars. |
Compulsory elements | Participation in the workshop and the seminars are compulsory. To compensate for absence the lecturer responsible for the seminar or the workshop will supply a study task. |
Examination | The student will demonstrate the capacity to: a) carry out a longitudinal analysis in a workshop and present the results in a seminar and b) to compare different qualitative research methods and designs for scientific investigations of longitudinal processes in health and care sciences by submitting a final paper containing reflections regarding the student's own research in light of the various designs and methods that have been presented during the course. |
