Purpose of the course | The course aims at providing a development of the skills in content analysis such as technique and methodology, and the breadth and use of the method in qualitative research in a longer perspective. |
Intended learning outcomes | After completing the course the student will be able to: * critically comment on literature describing the development and method of content analysis. * choose an adequate design for his/her own data. * describe the different elements of the analysis. * carry out the analysis. * critically evaluate the weaknesses and strengths of the method of analysis. |
Contents of the course | Development from a quantitative to a qualitative tradition of content analysis Design and choice of analysis Different elements of the analysis Application and critically evaluation |
Teaching and learning activities | The course includes lectures, seminars and individual assignments. The students will in project work during the whole course with support from lectures, individual literature assignments apply content analysis in their own research and reflect on that application in a critical way. |
Compulsory elements | The course in its whole needs active involvement of the students through participation in the various types of teaching. |
Examination | The students will finally in their project work demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of content analysis by submitting a paper containing the use of the analysis with regard to the learning outcomes. |

(4th ed.), London: Sage Publications. (832 pages - a selection). In addition to these books several scientific papers are also included as compulsory |
