Purpose of the course | |
Intended learning outcomes | After attending this course the students will have the necessary knowledge to understand how specific ion channels and receptors control the function of single neurons and the global brain function. They will also acquire new knowledge on how dysfunction of ion channels and receptors leads to neurological and psychiatric diseases. This course will provide the student with the basic technical and scientific information that will allow them to read and understand advanced literature in the field of ion channels and receptors. |
Contents of the course | The lectures during this course will cover: 1) Molecular structure of ion channels 2) Characterization and function of voltage-gated ion channels 3) Role of ion channels and receptors in synaptic plasticity. 4) CNS diseases related to ion channels and receptors dysfunction. |
Teaching and learning activities | The course consists of main lectures, computer labs and article presentations by the students. |
Compulsory elements | The compulsatory parts of the course are the seminar presentations and the written exam. Absence will be discussed with the course leader. |
