| Intended learning outcomes | To obtain skills in the evaluation of benefits and risks with antithrombotic treatment. |
| Contents of the course | The course will focus on arterial thrombotic disease. The schedule will include lectures, group work, and panel disscusions. Lectures will cover the following fields: review of basic pharmacology of antithrombotic drugs; review of and critical evaluation of present antithrombotic treatment principles in various cardiovascular diseases such as ischemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, cerebrovascular disease. Similarities and differences in treatment strategies of arterial and venous thrombosis will be discussed. The course will also include overviews on methodologies used in the assessment and development of antithrombotic drug treatment. Participants will perform group work where they are trained in critical evaluation of clinical trials of antithrombotic drugs. |
| Teaching and learning activities | The schedule will include lectures, group work, and panel disscusions. Lectures/panel discussions, and group work with PRO-CON assignments (one of each for each group) to evaluate therapies. Group work discussions of PRO´s and CON´s with alternatives, in which the students are expected to be very active. Panel discussions with experts in various clinical fields on the evaluation of drug treatment will be held. Totally lectures will cover about 60 % of the teaching hours, the remainder will consist of group work and panel discussions. |
