Purpose of the course
Intended learning outcomes After the completed course, the students will be able to understand and apply the technologies of modern DNA sequencing techniques. The students will be able to describe the most important applications and relate and apply them to the students¿ own research.
Contents of the course The course covers the following topics: Introduction to modern DNA-sequencing and practical considerations. Applications: RNA sequencing, ChIP sequencing and basic bioinformatic analysis of sequence data.
Teaching and learning activities The learning activities on the course consist of lectures by invited speakers and practical excercises in basic bioinformatic analysis. The students will be guided through the the practical process of DNA-sequencing, from cell preparation to basic analysis of the data. The course participants must bring their own laptop computer for the practical excercises.
Compulsory elements The laboratory practicals are obligatory. Absence from obligatory parts of the course will be compensated according to the instructions from the course director.
Examination The students will be examined with oral presentations focusing on understanding and interpretation of DNA sequence data.
Literature and other teaching material Recent publications and websites focused on the course topic.
