| Intended learning outcomes | After the course you should be able to - Report for contemporary as well as historical leadership research paradigms, - Discuss different scientific methods for studying leadership and reflect upon their appropriateness in different settings, - Apply knowledge from leadership research in your own research. |
| Contents of the course | The field of leadership and leadership research in different perspectives and situations, including methodology. |
| Teaching and learning activities | Lectures, seminars and group work. Own work includes literature studies and essay writing. |
| Compulsory elements | Active participation in the seminars which are compulsory. Absences from those activities will have to be made up with written examinations. |
| Examination | The course will be examined in both oral and written form including a written term paper, in which the students relate leadership research into their own research. |
| Literature and other teaching material | Jackson, B. & Parry, K. (2011). A very short, fairly interesting and reasonably cheap book about studying leadership. (2nd ed.). Wheelan, S. (2010). Creating effective teams: a guide for members and leaders. (3rd ed.). Scientific papers will be added. |

| Selection of students | Selection will be based on 1) the relevance of the course syllabus for the applicant's doctoral project (according to written motivation), 2) date for registration as a doctoral student (priority given to earlier registration date) |
| More information | The main purpose with this course it to provide the students with an opportunity to discover how leadership research is of relevance for their research questions and how knowledge from this area can further illuminate their field of research. Another purpose is to offer the students a broad network of research associates, senior colleagues and teachers with different research perspectives. However, it is not a course for personal development as a leader.
Seminars are scheduled the following Thursdays: 9 Feb, 16 Feb, 2 March, 16 March, 30 March and 18 May and will be held in Widerströmska building, Tomtebodavägen 18A, Karolinska Institutet Solna. |
