Kursens lärandemål After attending this cours the PhD student will: - have tools for presenting their research in a successful manner - have gained an understanding of how an audience is influenced by for example our body language - have learned to make the best out of him/herself as a speaker - have a deeper understanding of mechanisms promoting and reducing cooperation between individuals and within a group - understand why cooperation might be difficult and in which way humans are unique in the way we cooperate - understand more about how to apply the mechanisms of cooperation in a group
Kursens innehåll Presentation technique: Lectures on themes like body language and status. Practical sessions on body language, presentation, improvisation, and different techniques to make your presentation more interesting and help you deliever your message. Everyone can improve their skills in expressing themselves in an inspiring, secure, and enthusiastic way, no matter if the purpose is to give a lecture in front of a big audience or to express your opinion within a group. With the help of some improvisation exercises you will learn how to use your personal strengths in order to increase your self esteem. Cooperation and relationships: Theory, economic games, discussions, and assignments will be mixed. You learn about the mechanisms and dynamics of cooperation; how you can influence cooperation in a group and how this can be translated to your every day work as a member of a research group. By understanding and applying the mechanisms which influence how prone we are to cooperate we will become more successful in our relationships with other people, both professionally and in private life.
Arbetsformer Group assignments, lectures, economic games, discussions, supervision in group, oral presentations, individual assignments.
Examination Oral presentation and individual assignments.
Obligatoriska moment Compulsory parts: 1. individual, written analysis of a cooperation problem 2. group assignment and presentation where the mechanisms behind cooperation are discussed Written assignments as compensation for missed compulsory parts.

Ytterligare information Welcome to apply for the course on Social Skills! We would like to inform you that we focus a lot on the personal motivation in the application when deciding who will participate in the course. Therefore we would like to ask you to spend some extra time on writing something about why you are applying for this course, in which way it would be of value for yourself and your doctoral studies, what you expect of the course, why you think cooperation is important in research and also something about yourself and your doctoral studies. This course is in English, including all lectures and assignments. (The course will also be given in Swedish.) Lecturers are Sofia Czinkoczky, Carl-Adam Wachtmeister, Andreas Löhmer and Anna Hildenbrand Wachtmeister: Sofia Czinkoczky is an actress with many years of experience in giving courses in improvisational theatre and presentation technique. Sofia has been head of Stockholms Improvisationsteater. Since 1999 she has been working in the field of education and giving courses in communication, improvisation, and creativity for companies. Her passion is to make people dare using their innate creativity, which also show in her courses on presentation technique. Carl-Adam Wachtmeister did his PhD on behavioural biology and has about 15 years of research and teaching experience in the field of human and animal behaviour. Today he is a senior consultant, with assignments in both universities and companies. In his work Carl-Adam is focusing on cooperation and cultural change. Andreas Löhmer did his PhD at the University Konstanz, Germany and now he works as vice director at the Executive School of Management, Technology and Law of the University of St. Gallen, where he is responsible for Custom Programs. Before joining ES-HSG Mr. Löhmer managed the Business Faculty of one of the largest insurance company¿s Corporate University in Paris. Furthermore he was responsible for its Top Executive Leadership Program for several years. Prior to his activity in France Mr. Löhmer worked as Associate Partner on numerous international assignments with a Swiss consulting company in Sankt Gallen. Mr. Löhmer has established an expertise (consultant, trainer) in topics such as leadership, effective management, rethorics, change and organisation development as well as specific questions on strategy development. Mr. Löhmer published several articles in journals and contributed in books. Anna Hildenbrand Wachtmeister did her PhD at Karolinska Institutet and is also a licenced ICF Executive and Leadership Coach, working as a senior consultant in the field of business coaching, leadership development and cooperation within organizations. The course will be conducted at Karolinska Institutet and Hospital in Solna.
